Basketball Fiji Completes WABC Level 1 Workshop

Basketball Fiji (BF) with FIBA Oceania this week completed training for 12 selected coaches around Fiji for the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) Level 1 Coaching Certificate.

The initiative undertaken by BF was to accelerate the development of its coaches in the country.

"We wanted to build the depth of our national coaches. The selected participants were specifically identified and selected by the Federation, targeting coaches whom we believe have shown potential through experience gained coaching our junior national teams and have contributed to our Basketball for Good Programs." shared BF Chief Operating Officer, Laisiasa Puamau.

The six day workshop was facilitated by FIBA Oceania Development Manager and former Olympian Annie Le Fluer says the curriculum was quite extensive which consisted of both practical and classroom components.

"Basketball Fiji is the first Federation out of Australia and New Zealand to run a WABC Level 1 Coaching course, they had the vision that they want their coaches to have a pathway from grassroots to the elite level," shared La Fleur.
